Henry Hoke, Fiction Writer
Henry Hoke is the author of five books, most recently the memoir Sticker (Bloomsbury) and the novel Open Throat (FSG/Picador), which was a finalist for the Discover Prize, named a best book of 2023 by The Washington Post, and cited as “what fiction should be” by The New York Times. His work has appeared in No Tokens, Electric Literature, Triangle House, and the flash noir anthology Tiny Crimes. His play At Sundown premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and his short film Taking Shape screened on HBO. He co-created the performance series Enter>text in Los Angeles, and has taught at CalArts and the UVA Young Writers Workshop. He edits humor at The Offing.
The Poets & Writers Series is sponsored by the Temple University MFA Program in Creative Writing, with the assistance of the Department of English and the Richard Moyer Fund. Each year a number of poets and fiction writers are invited to read from and discuss their work to members of both the Temple community and the local Philadelphia arts scene. All events are free and open to the public.
