Reflections of Women in Black Music in Philadelphia by Author and Musician Toni Rose

    Temple University Libraries
    clara word

Join us at the Blockson Collection for a conversation with author and musician Toni Rose about African American women in music in Philadelphia. She will discuss Willa Ward of the World-Famous Ward Singers, about whom Rose and Willa Ward-Royster collaborated on How I Got Over: Clara Ward and the World-Famous Ward Singers, published by Temple University Press. Rose will also reflect on world-renowned saxophonist Myrtle Young, an original member of the International Sweethearts of Rhythm.

Toni Rose is a freelance writer and musician. She has worked with many bands and groups as a vocalist and drummer. She sculpts and writes poetry and was co-owner of High Fashion Designs: Ben-Toni Label.

This program is part of the Libraries' Beyond the Page public programming series. More at library.temple.edu/beyondthepage.
