Sample Class: Is Breast Best? The Role of Breastfeeding in Public Health

    In this MPH SBS sample class, we will discuss the importance of breastfeeding and the role that it plays in the field of public health. This interactive virtual session will mimic how graduate courses in the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department run, using strong evidence to examine an important issue for maternal, child, and family health. Our topics will include:

    • Evidence around the benefits of breastfeeding
    • Breastfeeding recommendation and rates
    • Barriers to breastfeeding using the Social-Ecological Model as a guide
    • Public health approaches to support and promote breastfeeding
