Liz Riedman, this year's GRASP winner and PhD student research will present on her research on the often-overlooked role of women and volunteer labor within urban greening initiatives.
Using oral histories and archival accounts, she centers the spatial stories of how women have long contributed to the development of urban green spaces in Philadelphia, and argues for an intersectional, feminist approach in understanding how we consider the equitable balance of ‘labor’ in building a more just and sustainable future.
This research expands on feminist historian accounts to observe and highlight the often-overlooked role of women and volunteer labor within urban greening initiatives. Using oral histories and archival accounts, this research aims to center the spatial stories of how women have long contributed to the development of urban green spaces in Philadelphia.
