Welcome to the Stories of Sustainability. This month we are focusing on Sustainability in Fashion, and featuring our third set of #EcoChampions: Allison Altobelli and Miya Wagner, founders of Thrift & Flop!
This story of sustainability offers Temple community members insight into building a waste conscious community! Thrift and Flop recognizes the negative environmental effects of fast fashion, and offers solutions through promoting shopping second-hand and facilitating upcycling and repair workshops.
Thrift and Flop was built to create a community of life-minded stylish and environmentally conscious students. It has developed a space for students enthusiastic about fashion, art, and sustainability. They merge all these things in their weekly workshops, teaching how to creatively rethink, reuse and upcycle your clothing and other textile and fiber “waste.”
Allison and Miya will lead a conversation about how the problems of fast fashion pushed them to build and grow their own waste-conscious community. An interactive workshop will conclude the event, so please keep an eye out on your email prior to the event to come prepared!
This event is for every member of our Temple community.
Allison and Miya were awarded the Office of Sustainability’s Green Grant to support their programming and facilitate collaboration with our Give and Go Green and Temple Thrift programs. Do you have the next big green idea?
