The Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging in the Social and Behavioral Sciences (DIBS) committee presents “Teaching on Tough Topics in Tough Times,” a talk and facilitated discussion with David Brown.
Brown is an esteemed public relations expert who has worked with many nonprofit and other mission-focused organizations throughout his 30+ year career, as well as an experienced mentor and teacher on topics related to diversity. He has spearheaded and regularly participates in a variety of diversity-focused training initiatives, such as the “Can We Really Talk” series hosted by CAT; is the former diversity advisor to the Office of the Dean at Klein; and is faculty advisor to the student chapter of the Black Public Relations Society. In this presentation, Brown will discuss strategies that faculty and staff can use to have sensitive conversations with students in the classroom. Considerations specific to the current political climate and media coverage of topics related to diversity will be discussed.
