    BLOOD AT THE ROOT

    by Dominique Morisseau

    Directed by Amina Robinson

    March 18 - 27, 2022 (7:30 pm, Sat & Sun Mat @ 2 pm)

    Stage Manager: Ariel Weiner

After a shocking incident sparks the fuse of a powder keg of racial tension at a Louisiana High School, the resulting explosion of violence leaves six Black students charged with attempted murder. Based on true events surrounding the case of the Jena Six, this bold, lyrical, and timely piece examines white supremacy in the justice system, racial double standards that have been perpetuated through history, and the resulting effect on the lives of Black families.

A rising dominant voice in the theater, Dominique Morisseau’s incredibly resonant plays are some of the most produced in the country; she was the first black woman to receive a Tony nomination for best book of a musical (AINT TO PROUD TO BEG) and her play SKELETON CREW has recently made it to Broadway.

“[Blood at the Root] catalyzes conversations on difficult and essential questions of race and justice”  - The New York Times

Please note: Blood at the Root uses strong language, racial slurs, and symbols of violence to accurately depict the story of the Jena Six.
