The Department of Philosophy Presents the 2025 Beardsley Lecture

Join us for a lecture by Professor Garry L. Hagberg (Bard College) entitled “The Metaphorical Lens".

Beginning with a discussion of Aristotle's model of metaphorical meaning, this lecture will explore a number of the relations and analogies between linguistic and artistic meaning, with the idea of metaphorical meaning -- seeing one thing in the light of another -- at the center.

    Reception to Follow.
