Temple Opera Theater Presents
Impressions de Pelléas
Conductor: Joseph Mechavich
Director: Copeland Woodruff
Producer: Jamie Johnson
In 1992, French composer Marius Constant published Impressions de Pelléas, an abridged version of Claude Debussy’s opera Pelléas et Mélisande, made for six singers and two pianists. Debussy’s five-act masterpiece tells a story of love and jealousy between Prince Golaud, his mysterious wife Mélisande and Golaud’s younger half-brother, Pelléas. Temple's production expands the suspense of Debussy’s tormented and tragic story to the modern day with the deep dread that comes from living within a surveillance state and under the violent oppression of the male gaze.
Please note: This production contains content that could be considered sensitive including scenes of spousal violence, attempted self-harm and implied self-harm. Viewer discretion is advised.
