Temple's Sports Journalism Summit 2015

Klein College of Media and Communication

This year’s event features keynoter Mike Missanelli, of ESPN affiliate 97.5 The Fanatic.

    Schedule

8:30 to 9:15: Check in and continental breakfast

    9:15: Welcome

9:30 to 10:30: Panel:  Let’s Go to the Source

Every reporter needs sources before they can think about writing their story. This panel will look at how to find those good sources and then develop that relationship.

    • Sarah Baicker, Comcast SportsNet reporter, part of Breakfast on Broad panel
    • Josh Verlin, owner/editor of @hooplove215 covering HS and college basketball in Philly and beyond
    • Mike Jensen, who writes "Off Campus," a regular column on college sports for The Inquirer and a staff writer with the paper since 1988.

10:45 to 11:45: Keynote speaker, Mike Missanelli, radio personality for ESPN affiliate, 97.5 The Fanatic

    11:45 to 12:15: Lunch

12:15 to 1:15: Sports Journalist Job and internship fair

1:15 to 2:15: Panel: Putting a Face on Ethics

Most students find themselves in an ethics class en route to their degree. But what are these expectations and the ways they get compromised? We’ll look at ethics through the prism of the last couple years, which has seen the suspension of several ESPN personalities and the NBA anchor.

    • Scott Palmer, Director, Public Affairs of Philadelphia Phillies
    • Leslie Gudel, Comcast SportsNet reporter, main beat is the Phillies
    • Mike Sielski, Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist

2:30 to 3:30: Panel: Learn from Me

This is something new we’re trying this year. What better way to learn from professionals then to hear them talk about the things they did right and what they did wrong as they carved out their careers.

    • Marcus Hayes, Philadelphia Daily News reporter
    • Amy Fadool, Comcast SportsNet anchor/reporter
    • Marc Farzetta, SportsRadio 94 WIP Host/Associate Producer with Sunday Night Football
