About the Event
The Bird Feeder Speaker Series continues through Spring 2021 on Thursday, March 11 with a lively debate between Professor of Advertising Joe Glennon and A.J. Warren, Associate Creative Director at Goodby Silverstein & Partners. As a Boston native, Professor Glennon will share his thoughts about the Samuel Adams’ “Your Cousin from Boston” campaign with one of its creators, A.J. Warren from Goodby Silverstein & Partners.
Professor Glennon will argue that the campaign does little more than play on stereotypes—such as that of thick accents, Good Will Hunting and both Affleck brothers—and does little for the brand. Men's Health magazine has called the campaign "Wicked Dumb." A.J. will share the strategy, concept development, and high level thinking that elevated the campaign above a caricature to something Forbes magazine called “The Best, Inherently Meta Commercial…” during this year’s Super Bowl. A.J. will also give a peek behind the scenes at the legendary advertising agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners.
