Join the Blockson Collection for a special music tribute celebrating the birthday of John Coltrane (September 23, 1926 - July 17, 1967), one of the greatest jazz saxophone players and composers of all time and major innovator of the African American music tradition called Jazz. The event will begin with a brief discussion of Coltrane’s enduring legacy by Lovett Hines and conclude with a performance by The Lovett Hines Legacy Group.
About Lovett Hines:
Lovett Hines, Artistic Director/Founder of the Music Education Program of the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts since 1985. Through two decades at the Philadelphia Clef Club and prior at the Settlement Music School, Lovett Hines was mentor to legions of Philadelphia musicians including Christian McBride, Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Kamal Grey of the Roots, Jaleel Shaw, and many more.
