Chrissie Iles is the Anne and Joel Ehrenkranz Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Her exhibitions include co-curating the 2004 and 2006 Whitney Biennials, retrospective exhibitions of Dan Graham, Louise Bourgeois and Sol LeWitt, and several thematic moving image installation shows including ‘Into the Light: The Projected Image in American Art 1964-1977’ (2001), which won the International Association of Art Critics’ award for best thematic exhibition in New York City. She recently curated ‘Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art 1905-2016’, a large thematic exhibition addressing issues of the immersive cinematic experience in relation to the body and technology. She has published, lectured and juried widely, and is active in building ongoing dialogues with artists and artist-run initiatives. She teaches in the Fine Art Department at Columbia University, is a member of the Graduate Committee at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, and is involved in the Whitney’s Independent Study Program. She was External Examiner for the curatorial course at Goldsmith’s College, London, and has supervised PhD candidates in the Art History departments of Columbia University and Oxford University.
