The works of Paul Pfeiffer repeatedly engage negation, the nature of which is as elusive and compelling as a seemingly absent subject, the 'empty' space at their centre. This is and is not an abstract or theoretical proposition. Using techniques learned by working in advertising Pfeiffer's own trademark is to manipulate (still and moving) images. Figures are digitally erased or point of view radically reoriented, mainly - though not exclusively - reconfiguring major (mainly - though not exclusively - American) sporting events (basketball, boxing, ice hockey, wrestling) and other spectacular entertainment; Hollywood cinema, live television, pop culture. www.art21.org/artist/paul-pfeiffer
