Webscraping YouTube

Location: Charles Library Room 315

This workshop will introduce students to critical approaches to social media and digital methods for scraping and analyzing data from the popular video-viewing platform YouTube. Students will learn how to scrape textual and visual data, including YouTube comments threads and networks, as well as the videos themselves, and transcripts of spoken audio. We will explore both user-friendly software and Python scripts for gleaning and visualizing data. In the process, participants will be exposed to related analytical methods including computational textual analysis, network analysis, and video analysis. Come with a project in mind or follow along with our sample project.

There will be four workshops in this series. You are not required to come to every one, but consistent attendance is encouraged.
