Join Klein College of Media and Communication for the inaugural Claire Smith Women in Sports Media Symposium at Temple University, a groundbreaking event dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in sports media. This one-day symposium will bring together industry leaders, scholars and aspiring professionals to engage in dynamic discussions, share insights and honor trailblazers who have made significant contributions to the field.
Hosted by the Claire Smith Center for Sports Media at Klein College, the symposium commemorates the 40th anniversary of a pivotal moment in sports media history—when Claire Smith, the first woman to cover Major League Baseball on a full-time basis, was barred from the clubhouse during the 1984 NLCS, sparking a change that opened doors for women in the industry. Claire Smith, now founding executive director and namesake of the Claire Smith Center, became recognized as a legendary journalist and sportswriter and continues to pave the way for the future of journalism.
Whether you are a student, professional or simply passionate about sports media, the Claire Smith Women in Sports Media Symposium is an opportunity to connect, learn and be inspired by those who are shaping the future of the industry.
