Throwing, punting, blocking, and tackling: It's not coaching or a rule book that controls American football. It's physics, particularly the laws of motion and its causes. How do velocity, mass, momentum, and forces impact how long a punt hangs in the air and under what angle a quarterback should ideally throw a ball. Professor Bernd Surrow, vice-chair of the Department of Physics, will show the relevance of physics in controlling the ball, the players, and, ultimately, the game.
