The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics Seminar Series presents: Dr. Stephen M. Ostroff: Food Safety and Foodborne Illness in the U.S.
Dr. Ostroff is a Medical Sciences Trustee for U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) who has served as Acting Commissioner for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Deputy Director for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While the US food supply is among the safest in the world, foodborne illness due to major foodborne pathogens remains stubbornly high. A series of high-profile foodborne outbreaks in 2024 highlight the ongoing challenges in preventing and limiting foodborne illness in the U.S. The current food safety system will be discussed along with regulatory approaches to reduce the burden of disease.
